Linux, I was introduced to the Linux environment a fat 10
years ago (rather an underestimate I fear) as a non-computerscientist
and although it was/is hard at times, I really like this setting much
better than any other commercially available environment.
Below is a very brief summary of my ideal work environment :
~ GIMP
: photoshop like thingie ..
~ Openoffice : the opensource office
package (which can read and export .doc files
~ LaTeX/Lyx : my favorite editor (see tab above for more info)
~ kmail : a mail client from KDE (from the KDE environment)
~ Eterm : in transparancy mode my favorite terminal (from the
Enlightenment environement)
~ xpdf : to read pdf files, although acroread works fine under linux
as well
- Devices :
* Digital camera : The Fuji Finepix E550 : works fine under
linux, can just be mounted like other USB devices ..
* Mp3 players :
- mpman MP-F40 : does not work under linux
- (name) : can be mounted like any other USB device
- techline DF 23 : can be mounted directly from the
device itself
