Echovirus
Typical picornavirus : 24-30 nm, naked, 7.5kb RNA, polyprotein
Site of viral replication :
- nasophayrinx then to lymph nodes, end up in lower gut tract => no major cellular effects.
- spreads to secondary sites e.g. CNS
Air-borne : other hosts 1-3 W after infections, via feces 8W after infection
Host : mainly in males within 2W after birth
- =>potentially fatal due to overwhelming liver failure or myocardidits. (Myocarditis in adults)
