Echovirus

• Typical picornavirus : 24-30 nm, naked, 7.5kb RNA, polyprotein

• Site of viral replication :

• • • nasophayrinx then to lymph nodes, end up in lower gut tract => no major cellular effects.
    • spreads to secondary sites e.g. CNS

• Air-borne : other hosts 1-3 W after infections, via feces 8W after infection

• Host : mainly in males within 2W after birth

• • • =>potentially fatal due to overwhelming liver failure or myocardidits. (Myocarditis in adults)
