Background on post-doc work

I was working on a small basic protein called agnoprotein. This protein is expressed by the polyomavirus BK virus. The name BK was derived from the initials of the first patient from which the virus was isolated..

BK virus resembles two other polyomaviruses : SV40 and JC virus. SV40 stands for Simian Virus 40 and was isolated from monkey cells. JC virus was discovered in the same time period as BK virus and its name also comes from the initials of the name of the original host.
