Disease-related

• Fever, cough, nasal congestion, enhanced during fall and winter; stress and weakened immune system

• No disease in lab animals (TG models) ; monkeys can be infected but don't have symptoms

• Transmission :

• • • • Direct : persion to person via aerosols of respiratory droplets
      • Indirect via respiratory droplets deposited on hands and transported from fingers to nose/eyes

• Large number of serotypes + low cross-reactivity => impossible to generate immunity via vaccination

• Secondary bacterial infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae
